The northern entrance to JR Kokura Station locates here. The wharf is steadily called on by several passenger ferry lines which are Shikoku (Sunatsu- Matsuyama), Aijima and Wumajima.
Now the port is proceeding with the creating of convention and water-front zones to correspond with the needs to make the Kitakyushu an international exchange hub and modern conglomerate city with new harbors space.
In Sunatsu area, the quays and wharf sites are being maintained so that the ferry terminal for Matsuyama line can be moved here. Asano No.1 quay is made to be more earthquake-resistant to prepare for the emergent transportation when earthquake happens. In the mean while, a small pier for government ships is planned in the western ferry wharf.
